Pleasant View Church

Red Lion, PA 17356

I grew up going to this church.

I grew up going to this church.

The original "stick" church building, known as "Herbst's Meeting House", was built in 1875. It was torn down in 1955 when this brick building was constructed behind it. My great great grandparents, Jacob & Julia (Diehl) Herbst, donated the land and materials for the original "Dunkard" church and adjoining cemetery. Their grandchildren donated more of the farmland in 1954/55 for construction of Pleasant View Church's parking lot to the right. The Herbst home, now razed, is in the previous photo, at the corner of S. Park St. and Winterstown Road. My parents are buried in the cemetery, along with most of my maternal ancestors.
