Rt 611 & Scotrun Ave Scotrun PA

that photo is a complete fake period I WORKED THERE IN 1942 43 AND THO VERY SIMILIAR THE ONLY THING ANYWHERES CLOSE IS THE CASTEL AND THT IS STILL THERE. BUILDINGS NOT THERE OR CORRECT, NO ISLAD IN THE CENTER OF THE LAKE, FRANKLY ITS A COMPLETE FAKE, PERIOD VERDON E, RUSTINE

Mr. Rustine, I don't believe the photo is fake or altered of Red Wood. This was taken 20 years after you worked there. It looks totally different today, the pond isn't even there anymore.

Agree with the location as stated. At the time of the photo it was known as "The North Pole", owned by a Mr. Irwin. The photo occurred eight years after a flood significantly effected the area, explaining the creation of the island and the appearance of buildings that were not there in the Redwood days. 54 years later everything is gone except "the castle" and a stream.

Our son just bought the "castle" in this picture. It was purchased from Zach Irwin and his wife, the son and daughter in law of David Irwin, who opened the attraction as the "North Pole", site of the former Red Wood resort/Pocono Fairyland. David Irwin was an explorer who went to the actual North Pole via sled dogs.

The August 1955 flood got everything but the castle. Must have changed a great deal.

I WORKED THERE IN 1942 AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW RUSTINE, NOT EVEN A REAL NAME, A BOT!

Verdon has died. Not "a bot". In his defense the 1963 aerial looks nothing like what he remembered from 1942-43. Sometimes it's not easy when an old dog sees a new trick. Or to expect an old guy to use today's "politically correct" terminology. You just "turn the other check" and appreciate him for what he did know.

My children my husband and myself lived in Mr Irwins castle home. We absolutely loved that home. We have very many memories that we hold dear and cherish. Many many times I catch myself thinking about the home and property.
What is left us the castle and the stream out front. In the stream you could still see the track from the swan ride.
Absolutely beautiful home. Who owns the home now is extremely lucky. Keep it as it's intended and keep it to its beautiful splendor.

Hello, Chriss and everyone,
This is such a great photo and a unique property. I can assure you none of our photos are fake or doctored. It can be hard to recognize them, in most cases, as a lot has changed over the years. What exactly were the "North Pole" and "Pocono Fairyland"? What type of things did they offer visitors?

Nathan's question:
"What exactly were the 'North Pole' and 'Pocono Fairyland'? What type of things did they offer visitors?"
Answer: Two different kinds of small, mid-twentieth-century 'amusement parks'. At the following link
https://drive.google.com/drive/folder...
are some postcards, photographs and newspaper articles about the places.

Thank you!
