This was my husband's family home. Built in 1956, his grandfather and grandmother lived there and farmed the land. His mother and father moved in shortly after their wedding in 1958, which took place in the side yard. My husband and his sisters were raised there. His parents lived there for their entire married life...he passed in 2017, and she in 2023. They were both lucky enough to pass away in the house they called home.
Although the surrounding land was sold off in the 1980's and developed and the barn and outbuilding demolished, the original home stands as is with only two additions to the one side.
My husband and his sister now own the home.
While cleaning out the house, we came across this picture that they purchased which was oil over a black and white print, still beautifully framed and with the company information on the back. Although it hung in a place of honor for many years so that I even recall it, they both thought it was lost when their grandfather moved out. It was so exciting to find it and share with the 4th and 5th generations who have never seen what the farm looked like in it's glory days.
The photo number on the back of the painting was identified as 25, but we had no problem finding it on your website.

Hi Lisa, thanks for sharing the incredible history behind your husband's family home! It must be so special to have found that photo and share it with future generations. Did the family engage in any specific type of farming on the land? We'd love to hear more about what it was like growing up in Dauphin County during that time. Let us know if there's anything else we can help you with.
