The Stanley Storrow farm on the north side of Jones Rd east of Anderson Rd, Brighton Township. Mr Storrow's grandfather built the house in 1870 from sandstone carried by horse and wagon from Amherst. Each trip took several days. The original lot was about 180 acres. It was up to 464 acres at one time, but by the 1950s it was back to 184 acres as lots were deeded to descendants.
In the fifties he planted oats, soy beans and wheat. It was a dairy farm for over 50 years until this time. Even by this photo many of the buildings were gone. The Enterprise article shows a striking, long barn with a unique dormer.
I don't think anything remains from this photo. The house there today may possibly be extensively remodeled but looks quite bit different with white siding.
Featured in the Wellington Enterprise as a "Mystery Farm" in the 1950s. This series of articles had a brief history and an aerial photo of each farm. Thanks to Cindy Kurpely of the Rochester Historical Society for providing the article. Search the Lorain County main page for "mystery" to see other farms featured.
