Stanton Sprinkle farm
The Stanton Sprinkles farm on the north side of Griggs Rd just west of Baker Rd. The Rochester area but actually just into Huntington Twp. The original 84 acre plot of land dates back to a Connecticut land grant from 1852. In 1863 Hiram Powers purchased the land. In 1887 Hiram Ledyard took ownership until 1938 when Mr Sprinkles bought it. In this photo the 108 acres supported a dairy herd of Holstein and Jersey cows. He also farmed many crops and managed the Williams farm.
The layout of the buildings seems the same today, although that distinctive tall cupola on the big barn is gone. The house is a now a modern one.
Featured in the Wellington Enterprise as a "Mystery Farm" in the 1950s. This series of articles had a brief history and an aerial photo of each farm. Thanks to Cindy Kurpely of the Rochester Historical Society for providing the article. Search the Lorain County main page for "mystery" to see other farms featured.
