We have lived here since 1990. Lots of out buildings are gone. No fenced in pasture on east side of house by road.
Hi Rick! Thanks for sharing your memories of the area. It's fascinating to hear about the changes over the years. It seems like a lot has changed since 1990. Can you tell us more about what the area was like in 1990? We'd love to learn more about the landscape and any other notable features. Also, did you or your family have any connection to farming in the area? L
This house was about a half of a mile off the road and they moved it up to its current location in the late 1800s. They would move it with horses and sleep in it overnight. The large white barn was built in 1910 and is still standing strong today. When they moved the house up they built a cement porch that wraps around the entire front of the house. They also poured a basement. This was a milking operation that surely must have been state of the art back in its day. We have tried to keep everything to itβs turn of the century beauty. With plenty of antiques and always resisting the people who thought it should be modernized. When we moved into it in 1990 the yard was unkempt and poison ivy was everywhere. The upstairs rooms had no closets and the lights were on pull strings. Before 1990 the traffic on the road that it sits on was sparse. But with the advent of construction on one of the state routes people found that this was a shortcut from st rt 571 to st rt 49. Now itβs pretty heavily traveled. Some might be interested in knowing that we still have the 3 seat outhouse! Although not functional.
