This property was known as the old George W. Moore Homeplace, or Capitola House. My great aunt Audrey (Mezick) Moore lived here with her husband, George H. Moore, who was the son of George W. and Mary Christiana (Wainwright) Moore. The house and the barn are gone now. The only building in this picture that still remains is the rear flat-roofed livestock building on the left. There is also a family burying ground where the trees are behind the barn, and that is still there also. You can view the burials here - https://www.mdgenweb.org/wicomico/wcp... and a Maryland Historical Trust report on the property here - https://apps.mht.maryland.gov/medusa/...
Hi Shari! Thank you for sharing such interesting information about the old George W. Moore Homeplace. It's fascinating to hear about your family's connection to the property. Since the photo was taken in 1989, could you tell us what changes have occurred in the area since then? We'd love to hear more about what the landscape was like back then. Also, if you don't mind sharing, what type of farming did your family do on the property?
