I believe this is my great grandparents house at 436 E. 500 North, Wabash County, Urbana Indiana. They were Tom ( 1854-1941) and Mary Harter Oliver (1852-1918). Their son, Ralph Oliver (1885-1942) may have been born here. He married Lulu Beghtel in 1908 and my mom was born in this house in 1908. In mid-1920's, they moved to the next house to the west.

Hi there! Thank you for sharing your family history with us. It's fascinating to hear about your great grandparents and their house in Wabash County, IN. We'd love to learn more about the area during that time. Was farming a common occupation in the community back then? It's interesting to see how things have changed since the photo was taken in 1989. Let us know if you have any memories or details to share with us.

Yes farming was the common industry in Wabash County but there are others. My great grandfather was farmer. My grandfather, Ralph Oliver, went to college in Illinois but after first year, his dad said he needed to come home and help on the farm. Between this property and the house to the west, I think it was 94 acres. They grew corn and soy beans, alternating each year. My great grandfather, Tom Oliver, died in 1941 and grandfather died 6 months later in 1942. My grandmother got a family to farm it for her. TI Whistler and then his son in law Roger Dale. My grandmother had a little notions shop in Urbana in 1930's. After my grandfather died she went to work for the Cyclone Company in Urbana that makes seeders and other farm equipment. It is still there. My grandmother died in 1971. I was lucky enough to recently visit this house when it was up for sale. Loved seeing it again.
