This building was owned and operated by Battey Machinery Co. until 2000 when they went out of business. It was one of Rome’s oldest ongoing businesses, founded in the 19th century by A.R. Battey and originally supplied boilers and steam engines for the riverboats that carried cotton on the Coosa River, as well as parts for cotton gins and woodworking equipment. The building is now occupied by Unity Christian School.
