This building was constructed by H. R. Shuman, Jr. and for decades was the offices, sales floor, parts room, and maintenance shop of Shuman Implement Co.. Shuman Implement Co. sold Allis-Chalmers tractors and other farm equipment, e.g., New Holland, and later sold Massey-Ferguson tractors and farm equipment. For a time in the 1960's, Shuman Implement Co. was also the local auto dealer for American Motors and sold Rambler automobiles. Teeny Shuman also sold Lowry Organs from this location. Offices of Shuman Oil Co., Inc. were also housed in this brick building. Shuman Implement Co. was closed in 1986 due to the declining health of its owner, H. G. Shuman, who passed away in October 1986. The building was rented for a time to a flooring company. Jimmy Shuman, later used it for the storage and sale of doors and windows for a couple of years. The building and property were sold at auction in December 2011 as part of the liquidation of the H. G. Shuman estate following the death of Mrs. H. G. (Teeny) Shuman in August 2010. The building, located at the corner of US Hwy 280 W and Tattnall Street in Hagan, underwent some minor renovation and operates today (2022) as "Hagan Market" -- a grocery and liquor store.

I grew up in Hagan and this was my family's business. I worked various jobs, including in the Parts Room (hated it) and driving the tractor trailer truck for Shuman Oil Co. In 8th grade I also cleaned the three bathrooms in this building weekly and received $1 for each bathroom cleaned . . . saved the money and bought myself a Motorola transistor radio!!
