This photo was taken looking south, on the east side of the dual highway, more commonly known as Route 13. The large building in the left mid/foreground is the Blue Hen Mall, that opened two years later in 1969. You can see Dover Air Force Base in the center background, and Route 13 winding north/south on the right hand side of the shot.
Actually, the view is south southeast and it is Delaware Route 1 (aka South Bay Road). US Route 13 is further to the right out of this photo and travels a south southwest direction. The Blue Hen Mall opened in August 1968. In the summer of '67 they were preparing to move the Second Empire house that you can see just to the lower right of the mall complex. I wish I knew where they moved it!
